Today I had thoughts about two relationships. Relationship with God, and relationship with others. I underlined two bits of the Henri Nouwen book that I’m reading because I felt they were such good reminders of what I believe the two relationships to be.
People finally will remember you not for your words, ideas, statements or books, but for what you have done for others, and for the spirit in which you did it.
Be sure that you love the life you’re living now, your studies, your prayers, your friendships… Then you can trust that God will reveal to you the direction to go when the time comes. But don’t try to know now what you only have to know a few years from now.
– Henri Nouwen, Sabbatical Journey
The way we live out the ‘Now’ – why? And how?
The bits above reminded me of willingness, kindness, passion, satisfaction, trust, waiting. An appreciation of Now, yet with a heart set on Then. Activity yet also stillness. Focusing on others yet not thinking lesser of self.
By grace we live out such paradoxes in the Now. Then, we will know fully.
