When you work on big paper, everything else needs to be big as well. Your ‘ruler’, your sketches, your gestures. But if the ruler turns out to be insufficient for the canvas you have, just go with the flow. Will work out too.

Plumb lines are important – especially when the paper gets bigger. What do you do when you can’t actually make a plumb line? Look for the straightest thing around, ensure it’s firmly secured to level ground, and hold your paper up to it. If it’s upright and rooted in a sound foundation, your paper should go up well too.
