Was waiting for FC and VY to come. Decided to raise the blind – it wasn’t too glaring without the shade. Looked out at the water and colours for a while, thoughts in many places. Looked more closely at the boats. Reminded of the year FM and I decided to be “tourists” at Clarke Quay and Little India for a day, and went on a River Cruise. Recalled what we saw, how we laughed, how we posed for pictures.
“So, I just thought about this before you came. Suppose you are/your life is an island. And some tourists are going to go on a river cruise along you/your life. What would they see on your shoreline, skyline?”
“You’re talking about the present, or you mean it to be aspirational?”
“Could be both. Would make for an interesting comparison. Let’s start with the present.”
“Isn’t that interesting? You can tell a lot from a question like that. Some of our ‘shorelines’ are filled with nature; others with infrastructure, bright lights, activity. Some would choose to describe the shoreline, others the skyline, and those like you – talk about what’s underwater… the coral reefs with beauty that is unseen to those who stay on the surface.”
