Some time has passed. This was meant to come much earlier. But it is good to come back to it only now.
What should I be diligent for and about?
There are many answers, and all right and good. Struck by a few this season:
Living towards righteousness.
Made for holiness.
Stewarding, not owning.
Undistracted. Unrelenting. Eyes that are never off the Lord. A heart that never stops seeking Him. Set Apart. Acutely aware of true reality. Time is quickly slipping by, even in the slowness of all our struggles. Wakefulness.
Surprise message from PC that led me to pulling out this draft post, and thus these thoughts:
Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, andn will come up and wait on them. – Luke 12:37
It sat very nicely with today’s devotional, and Lenten reading of 1 Peter.
Those whom the Saviour saved are in due time effectually called by the power of God unto holiness: They leave their sins; they endeavour to be like Christ; they choose holiness, not out of any compulsion, but of a new nature which leads them to rejoice in holiness just as naturally as before they delighted in sin. God neither chose them nor called them because they were holy, but He called them that they might be holy. – Spurgeon
