In the trenches.
Some days I really get into it, and I’m in what people call Flow.
Some other days, the only thing that’s flowing is time.
Believe it or not, I actually started by populating a document template that would have delighted the purists. After about 2 days of starting-stopping, it hit me: go visual!
Out came the big paper, small notes and canvases of every size in between. Add a pair of scissors and some sticky tape, and the possibilities became endless.
Once the pen (or stylus, sometimes) hit the paper, there was no looking back. Fun all the way. Madcap ideas of all kinds. Not all will be done, but all are possible.
It helps to know He’s seeing the maps too. The Flow often happens not in plenty of doing, but in being centred and still – and listening for the gut feel. Crystallise.
It’s an interesting space to be in – the purist influences exerting some discipline to the process, the same time thoughts are flying in all directions.
Every now and then, I try to remember to snap out of the fun and do some other things. Eat a proper, good meal. Write nonsense emails with friends. Send and receive encouraging messages. Catch up with the folks and hear their oddball tales. Celebrate birthdays. Celebrate homecomings. Anticipate new beginnings with friends. Oh, and sleep 🙂
